How To Make Your Laundry Room Drool Worthy

How To Make Your Laundry Room Drool Worthy

A drool-worthy laundry room seems like an odd thing to want in your home, or is it? Think about how much time you actually spend in this room, even if it’s only for short bursts of time. If you’re anything like me (and my hubby), it’s A LOT. There is the standard ‘washing of the clothes’, the ‘cleaning of things in the utility tub’, the ‘trying to find that cleaning stuff in this mess’, and the ‘I have no room in here to do anything’. If these things sound remotely familiar to you, you are seen. So, why not give the room the makeover it deserves; make it a beautiful place to be spending all of that time in! (The tips below are ones you can actually do in your own home!!!)

I was on this very same page not too long ago; I didn’t want to be in the laundry room and could never find anything on the wired shelves (which I also could not stand). My idea was to add some shelves and put a little ‘design-flair’ into it. After pleading my case to my hubby, he jumped right on board with my idea and headed off to Lowes!!! (I think they might know us by name now!)

It started out as most laundry rooms do: plain and boring with unutilized space. So up went the shelves, and honestly they were pretty easy!!
All of the supplies and steps we used are listed below…so if you’re not interested in the shelves, scroll down a little further!!

  • Shelf Support: 2-in x 2-in x 8-in Square Unfinished Pine Board (use the below info to figure out how much you would need to buy)
    • Measure the length of the wall you will be installing the shelf on – you’ll want to make sure you buy enough 2x2s to put along this wall
    • Add 24 in (to support the depth of the shelf – 12 in on each side)
    • Add 13 in for each angled support you want to add (we have 3 for our top shelf, and 2 for the bottom one)

Once the shelves were installed, I was handed the reigns to finish the project! So, in went the Blue Striped Posprica Storage Basket Bins (11 x 11), which if you don’t already know, are my absolute favorite bins of all time – I use them throughout my entire house! In order to complete the look, I added in the Kirkland’s Laundry Co. Metal Wall Plaque and the DII Cotton Buffalo Check Plaid Dish Towels, which I hung up using a Double Hook Black Towel Hook. The finishing touch of the matching Buffalo Plaid Rug.

That is the story of how we gave our laundry room a makeover!! The sliding barn door you see below is a story for a different day
